Stem Cells Jump a Hurdle

At least as much as a cell can do such a thing. The New York Times reports today that stem cell researches have found a way to create the cells without needing an embryo, a find that renders the majority of ethical questions moot (don’t I sound like a lawyer now). While I was not one who had a real ethical problem with using stem cells from embryos, I recognize that this discovery is a big one because it will allow researches to most likely get more funding, go ahead with more research, and generally be able to find the true power contained in the stem cells. Stem cells seem to hold the power to be an incredible health tool, but as the article mentions, research has been held back. Whether this is because of scientific limitations or ethical dilemas and a conservative government and populace worried about such a thing (probably the latter), research has been stagnant. Hopefully now that it seems that ethical questions are out the window so to speak, research can go forward in an orderly manner.

More Proof That I Have Questionable Reading Tastes

While on the one hand I’m reading Jonathan Franzen’s The Corrections, on the other I just read a rather long blog about the possible beautification benefits one can receive by taken a cum shot to the face essentially. I don’t really get the whole cum shot thing honestly. Not really my scene I suppose (either as receiver or quaterback of said shot to the face - Ow, my eye!), but some interesting stuff came out of that blog (do you see what I did there?). All in all, it seems that semen is not the way to youth, unless its someone else’s youth. Mainly a babies. A baby is very young. But yeah, they really break it down over there at Jezebel so you should check it out. Especially any of you ladies expecting to get a facial and rub it in later tonight. It is Friday after all.

Wait, You Need a Reason?

The New York Times reported on a study done at the University of Texas in Austin (damn Texans) exploring the reasons people have sex. There’s some interesting stuff in there I suppose, but seriously, is this what our great minds of science are doing with their time? Hey, I’m all for fun little studies about sex and everything, but I think I saw the same quiz in Cosmo last week (note: I do not read Cosmo thus I do not know). I mean, I understand that studying sex and the reasons behind it could have some sort of application to human behavior and mating rituals/habits etc., but I got one word for you: “C’mooooonnnnnnn.”
